We had someone snap this photo of Joe when we set up a 'portrait studio' at the commons in 2006. Lee was the photographer, Carolyn and I his able assistants!

Lulu watched the two-day 'portrait studio' with great interest!

Thea, Carolyn and Joe!

Here are Thea and I eating clams, drinking beer, and having fun with Joe Crowley! We're wearing the hats he gave us. What a sweet, great guy!!! xxx

A Few Last Korea Photos

Charlie was impressed with the New York Hot Dog joint in Seoul!

Bored riot police sitting in the park (the riot did not materialize):

Charlie said this building was City Hall being renovated. That's a wrap around the building!

At Deoksugung Palace, colorful changing of the guard (Charlie thought the fellow standing so close was an off-duty palace guard):

This photo is also from Deoksugung Palace. I like this photo:

These last two photos are from the hike in Bukhansan National Park:
A favorite pasttime, rock sitting:
Lastly, for a guy, Charlie really gets what to bring home for gifts! This beautiful doll made entirely from paper is a portrait of the first female doctor in the royal palace, in the mid-1500's:

Charlie - Korea - May 2009

Charlie was in Seoul, South Korea for a meeting in early May. One of his colleagues, an American living in Seoul, arranged for a group of them to go hiking in Bukhansan National Park. It's close to Seoul, and the subway line goes right to the park entrance. Below, a pretty bridge crosses the stream:

They passed several temples on the hike into the mountains. Below, a small temple surrounded by flowers.

Further up the mountain trail, a large bell covered by a beautiful pagoda like structure:

They passed interesting piles of rocks, large and small. Charlie said that hikers contribute to the building of these.
